OS After assembling a computer from scratch and make it ready to run it as a server we will continue this great manual on how to mount a server in Ubuntu Linux Server operating system installation. Network Settings After the manual called (How to install Ubuntu Linux Server) arem first thing is to configure the network. When installing the operating system we automatically configured DHCP service for our router automatically assigns us an IP. That is very good and we have been very comfortable since we have not had to configure our network card at all during the installation of the system but we will have to configure it manually. Why? Very simple ... We will need our network card has a static IP because when you share a Web or FTP service will have to open and redirect port 80 to the Web and 21 for FTP to our server and consequent an IP then configure it so that we do. If we set a static IP and instead we are automatically assigned an IP by the DHCP service when you want to open ports on your router are not going to say to that ip must be redirected if the port because the IP of our server will always be different. So do not choice but to go through here. Adelante! This is very simple, for this we have started our server and access a user terminal with the system we created in the installation of Ubuntu Linux Server.
LAMP Web Server If anything characterizes Ubuntu Linux from other Linux distributions is its ease of use. The issue of Linux Ubuntu Server does not go much further and now we see why. FTP Server
To to upload and download files to our server in Ubuntu Linux Server need to install software that is able to offer this service. I have used several FTP servers and I always end up staying with it. Proftpd for me is the best FTP server software I have ever tasted and this time I will use for this server that we are riding ... Then we will install and configure it so that we can upload and download files from our server in Ubuntu Linux Server. Domains For those who do not have a static IP we need to register in any website that offers a DNS redirection service for free. We need this so that when we change our IP locate our server from the Internet. Statistics One section that we will not forget in our server are the statistics to know what is happening within our server on Ubuntu Linux Server. We are going to install some programs that we see in detail the life of our hardware and all the data traffic into and out of our server. I have registered the domain hsnet.sytes.net to find my machine on the Internet. All that we do not need to have a fixed IP domain such as when we change IP redireccionamiendo DNS No-IP ARA we related to that domain. Web Statistics Another thing that we to monitor our server is the traffic that comes from the Internet. To do this we will use the software once again AwStats. I tried several log files analyzer such as Visitors. And others even more simple ... Even though I repeat I have no choice to install the best free log analyzer that exists and I've tried. To monitor our web server this time I use software called "AwStats" which as its name says everything about who will see and visit us users who access our web server Ubuntu Linux Server. graphic environment I've never ridden a server that was very powerful as hardware is concerned so I installed only the minimum necessary applications for the system to be the most fluid as possible. The server I'm riding with all this pile of books is a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz with 2 GB of RAM with 2 GB of SWAP. The graphics card is not that it's all wonderful but what is going to see on the monitor not going to be anything that needs a lot of graphics. Another reason for which I will install a graphical environment to this server is because the motherboard of my current workstation is dead and I can not revive any of the ways. At the moment did not have broke my laptop at home and needed a simple web browser to check my email. All who read me you'll be asking how is that GUI only have 2 of my 13 computers .... the answer is as simple as that I have 8 and 5 operational machines for testing and rare invention that come to mind. Of the 8 both have GUI and the other the control from the terminal through ssh so have no environment or screen or mouse, just have them connected to a network cable and one outlet.
